Stages Learning Materials, creators of the top-selling autism education product, the Language Builder Picture Cards, is releasing a new Language Builder® App for iPad that is based on ABA therapy and provides children with autism with a new interactive way to learn language and behavioral skills.

The Language Builder App from Stages Learning is based on the Language Builder Picture Noun Cards, Sets 1 & 2, which are used by BCBA’s, SLP’s, Teachers and Parents to teach basic language skills to children with autism or related developmental challenges.
Designed by Angela Nelson with a team from the Technology, Innovation and Education Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, the new app includes 6 ABA-based activities for children with autism: Identical matching, similar matching, receptive matching, expressive labeling, picture ID, and sorting. It provides a unique and creative way for therapists and parents to teach children with autism new language skills while using the tenants of Applied Behavior Therapy (ABA) to provide an interactive and rewarding learning experience. The team used an iterative design practice and consulted with ABA therapists to produce the research-based learning App.
“We are very excited to announce the release of the Language Builder App from Stages Learning. It is designed for use with children with autism who are preverbal or who are learning their first several hundred words,” said Angela Nelson, CEO of Stages Learning Materials. “The app is designed for use in home, therapy, and educational settings.” Nelson also explained that the app is “designed to help automate the process of Discrete Trial Training (DTT). The program provides consistent “question — response – reinforcement” trials with built-in prompting. While parents can use the app with their child, they may want to do so in consultation with a trained therapist or educator.”
The Language Builder® App has Free, Basic and Pro versions. The Basic version includes 90 Stages’ images, with 500+ words. Language Builder Pro comes complete with all 600+ images, including Animals, Foods, Transportation, Furniture, Clothing, Toys, Everyday Objects, Insects, Sea Life, Musical Instruments, Tools, Body Parts, Safety Sign, Shapes and Colors.
